Make a Final Contribution to Science Education and Research

The Université de Sherbrooke is one of five educational institutions in Quebec that receive body bequests for teaching and research.

Body donations enable students in the Faculté de médecine et des sciences de la santé to gain a better understanding of the human body and to benefit from the practical study of anatomy. They also support the development of resident physicians and the work of various research teams.

The anatomy laboratory of the Université de Sherbrooke receives an average of 90 donations per year. They are invaluable for:

  • anatomy courses
  • undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
  • research into new surgical practices
  • surgical practice
  • continuing education
  • the work of the only active plastination laboratory in Quebec

Conditions

The formalities to be completed by any person wishing to donate their body are :

  • be a person aged 18 years or over
  • complete the registration form
  • sign the donor card and have it signed by two adult witnesses
  • keep this card available at all times
  • communicate the decision to family members
  • authorise the transfer of the information contained in their medical file
  • the body must meet certain conditions
